PILGRIMAGE RESOURCES

For those of you who followed our 2020 virtual pilgrimage of the Central Pillar of Portugal via Casa Fuzetta’s social media feeds (@casafuzetta and facebook), I am delighted to share below some links and suggested reading if you would like to stretch your curiosity a little further…

zoence academy

You will have seen me refer to Peter & Sarah Dawkins, as the people who introduced us to Zoence and have been the principal leaders of the pilgrimages exploring the beauty of Portugal we have organised over the past few years (with more to follow…)

For more on what Zoence is about - please see About Zoence

They have written extensively both on Zoence, pilgrimage and the Wisdom of Shakespeare. For an introduction to pilgrimage, please see Pilgrimage. I would also recommend the Core Truths. For all other publications, please see Books

PANEURHYTHMY

Sarah Dawkins is a teacher of paneurhythmy and on every retreat and pilgrimage we lead with her, paneurhythmy is included in the day, usually early in the morning. The simplest description of what it is, is that it is a prayer for the soul through dance and music. Each movement has a distinct meaning. It was devised by Beinsa Douno, a spiritual master in Bulgaria in the early part of the twentieth century. It is still practised there today.

These you tube links provide a wonderful introduction: What is paneurhythmy? and Paneurhythmy in the Rila mountains

Every couple of years we host a paneurhythmy centred retreat at Casa Fuzetta. Please email casafuzetta@gmail.com if you would like to know more.

BOOKS

When you visit Casa Fuzetta, you will find that my husband, Jonathan Tod has written “A Starters Guide to the Meaning of Life”. If you would like to visit the Casa Fuzetta Edit Shop

For books on the history of Portugal, we have enjoyed: First Templar Nation by Freddy Silva, First Global Village by Martin Page and for something set within modern history A Small Death in Lisbon by Robert Wilson

For an accessible introduction to Wisdom Schools, Orphic and Dyonisian myths and the teachings of Plato and Hermes Trismegistus, all set in the time of the Medici, I have just finished and loved the Botticelli trilogy by Linda Proud.

recent PILGRIMAGES

Our May 2020 virtual pilgrimage was our third exploring the beauty of Portugal and the role Portugal plays in the classical myth of Europa and the Bull (from which Europe takes its name). Mainland Europe can be seen imaginatively as a ‘bull’ with the British Isles seated on its neck as ‘Europa’. Spain is the ‘head of the bull’ and, as such, Portugal forms the ‘face of the bull’. Sintra, which is just north of Lisbon, has been known as ‘the Nose of Europe’ for centuries. By pilgrimaging within the ‘face’ of the Bull of Europe, we aim to help Europe to metaphorically breathe its physical breath in conjunction with the more spiritual breath associated with the alta-major chakra (represented by the British Isles/Europa), and thus create harmony.

In May 2022 we pilgrimaged the Central Pillar (in “real life”this time) and then headed north to Ireland. At the heart of Ireland is the sacred hill of Uisneach. At Beltane, the farmer who owns the land invites artists, musicians and wisdom keepers from across the country to take part in a beautiful ceremony to honour this sacred place.

In May 2023 we hosted a retreat at Casa Fuzetta focussing on the chakra system of the Algarve, including sound weaving with the beautiful souls and singing bowls of Resounding Earth and led our fourth pilgrimage, to the higher crown points of the Portuguese tree of life, which are in Galicia, Spain.
